Surprise Backyard Makeover After BYU Student’s Dad Passes Away

After Wesley’s father died unexpectedly, leaving himself, his mother, and 4 siblings behind. He had been complaining of chest pain and had made an appointment to see his Doctor the following week. Sadly, it was too late. Wesley’s sister went to get a ride from her father when she noticed he was not breathing. Paramedics were able to get him breathing again, but he died prior to making it to the hospital.

A few of Wesley’s friends at BYU heard what happened, and with the help of some volunteers, their backyard was transformed. Wesley is a guy that goes out of his way to find ways to pay it forward in the community. It was time to give back to the fun loving guy who had done so many good deeds.

When you lose a loved one, often people ask “what can I do to help?” But with so much going on all at the same time, people just don’t always know what to ask for, so they bear the burdens alone.

One of Wesley’s close friends had this to day. “ – When I heard Wesley’s story, my heart sank. I found out his father had passed away, I just, it was so hard for me to think about the things that he’s gone through and how much he’s made a difference in my life. I just really wanted to do something for him. He doesn’t know how much I love him.”

Wesley – “The most helpful thing I’ve seen is when people do more than just say words but they actually do something. A lot of people have brought by meals, a lot of people have donated money, a lot of people have come today to help us clean up our nasty yard and thing like that have been the most helpful for me. I have no words to explain how thankful I am.”

In their time of need, the Valdez family were overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from friends, neighbors, and strangers. The emotions were high for all involved. When you’re blessed, be a blessing. If you want to find ways to pay it forward in your community, we would love to have YOU on our team!
