Brandy Vega, with GDR, stopped by a local Mexican restaurant in Salt Lake City on a recent cold and rainy day. She ordered up 20 burritos and hit the streets looking for people who might be in need of a warm meal.
In about 30 minutes Brandy was able to make sure that 20 random strangers, who needed the support, knew that they were not alone, that they were cared about and got a little warmth on a cold day.
I met some really incredible people and you know more than anything, I know it mattered. I know that they felt special for a minute…
Brandy had this to say about the experience:
“…I literally spent maybe 30 minutes of my time driving around. I handed out 20 burritos. I met some really incredible people and you know more than anything, I know it mattered. I know that they felt special for a minute, and I did get to talk to them, and it’s not hard…if you have $20 and thirty minutes on your lunch break how ‘bout you go get your own food, pick up a little extra and drive around and just hand it out to people. It wasn’t scary. Do you have to be careful? Yeah. You look for people who look shady and you might need to avoid them. That’s okay, but not everybody. You go with your heart and what you feel and I tell you what, you can make a difference and it feels really good.”
